Hard work pays off for vegan swimmer
Vegan swimmer Or Tal has been proving he can perform at different distances – and succeed.
Still only 19, Or is improving fast, but is already making his mark. He recently competed in the Israeli 5000 metres event and took fourth nationally. He finished in 55:29.
Since then he’s set a personal best over 100 metres. The time of 51:19 means Or is closing in on the sub 50 seconds time of the international elite, and achieving this in a 50 metre pool in a league meeting.
Or has been vegan since aged 9 when his family made the change.
He says: “I love animals – they’re just like us – people – they are smart, they have feelings and they have families. I’m not gonna eat them especially when I know that you can be very strong and be a great athlete with this nutrition.”
