Currently living in the USA, Budjargal ran in the Across the Year ultra in Glendale Arizona. The race follows a course just over one mile. The clock never stops, so all rest stops mean competitors can gain on you.
Budjargal completed 442 laps which was 463 miles or 745 kilometres. He won by just under 60 miles (96 km).
This is his third title at the Across the Years ultra.
He would have been joined by another vegan – who may have challenged for his first place? Running legend and long-term vegan Catra Corbett had registered for the race but couldn’t make it.
He is an accomplished extreme distance runner, and has been vegan since January 2019. Originally he turned vegan for health reasons and eats mainly raw food.
“Veganism is the right choice for me, it improves my physical strength” he says.
Budjargal is known for his spiritual approach to running, focussing on mental strength.
